Now that the influx of fake medicines into Europe has become a priority for the police and drug control agencies, the Council of Europe is rallying European governments to strengthen international co-operation.
The Council of Europe is finalising a Convention on the subject of counterfeit medicines. Once adopted, it will be the first international treaty to criminalise counterfeiting together with manufacture and distribution of medical products marketed without authorisation or in breach of safety standards.
